Occupation Restrictions and Requirements

Overview

As of March 27, 2025, the SINP is accepting new Job Approval Forms. Please note that several program and policy updates have been implemented due to a 50 per cent reduction in the SINP's 2025 nomination allocation by the federal government. For details on these changes, please review the Immigration FAQs page.

The SINP will be hosting information sessions on the recent program changes for prospective applicants on April 3, 2025 at 3 p.m. and April 9, 2025 at 10 a.m. To register, please email immigration@gov.sk.ca and clearly indicate which session you wish to attend.

Some occupations, as described by the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system, may not be eligible through the SINP. Others may encounter added licensing requirements or limits on the number of nominations available in a given calendar year. For more information about what NOCs can be supported by Saskatchewan employers and which are eligible through the Occupations In-Demand (OID) and Express Entry (EE) programs, please review the page below.

How to Determine Your National Occupation Classification (NOC)

To identify which occupation you should select, see the NOC Search Tool.

Type your job title into the Quick Search field to see which NOC codes apply to you. SINP Staff cannot tell you what NOC to select. You need to review each occupation's job duties, responsibilities, employment and educational requirements and then choose the one that most closely matches your education and work experience so that your application is not found ineligible.

You need to verify that your occupation or NOC code is considered high skilled in Canada (TEER 1, 2, or 3) by checking the TEER Categories. The second number in your NOC code corresponds with its skill level. SINP Staff can tell you if your NOC is high skilled but cannot tell you what NOC fits your education and work experience until you apply and they are able to assess your documentation.

SINP Nomination Caps on Sectors and Occupations

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) has implemented a new targeted nomination framework, in response to federal immigration changes and reduced provincial quotas, that limit the annual nomination allocation to 25 per cent for specific sector-occupation combinations.

While Saskatchewan maintains its commitment to welcoming newcomers who contribute economically, this balanced approach ensures a more resilient immigration system that supports Saskatchewan's broader economic growth priorities.

Once the allocation for capped sector-occupations has been met, the system will remain open to allow employers to continue submitting Job Approval Forms (JAFs), though these will only be processed if additional approvals become necessary to fulfill the SINP's annual nomination targets.

SINP Excluded Occupation List

People with the following occupations are excluded from applying to the Occupations In-Demand (OID) and Express Entry (EE) program sub-categories. This is a list of occupations that are not eligible for these program sub-categories. Note that these occupations may be eligible through the International Skilled Worker Employment Offer subcategory and the Saskatchewan Work Experience category if your employer has registered with the Government of Saskatchewan and received approval for the job offer.

Job Offer Exclusion List

A number of business types are not eligible to obtain Job Approval Letters (JAL) through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP).

Additionally, a number of occupations are not eligible for SINP pathways that require a job offer and a JAL from a Saskatchewan employer unless certain requirements are met.

For additional information, please review the Excluded Business Types and Occupations for SINP Job Offer Categories.

Selecting/Changing Your Occupation in the Expression of Interest (EOI) System

When you create your International Skilled Worker EOI profile, you can select from qualified occupations.

If you already have an EOI profile but want to change the occupation you selected, you can change and resubmit your Expression of Interest (EOI) profile. To update, click on the "Make Changes to EOI" button on the EOI Points screen. Next, save and click on the Submit Expression of Interest button.

If you have asked for a secondary review for a past SINP application, you will need to cancel your request in order for the SINP to accept a new application.

SINP Requirements Related to Professional Status or Licensure

Some jobs in Saskatchewan are regulated or need professional certifications. You may need to submit more documents. Please see the list below for jobs with these requirements.

Download SINP's Professional Requirements by Regulated Occupation

If you are applying to the SINP with a job offer from a Saskatchewan employer, you will only be asked to provide proof of eligibility for licensure if that credential is legally required for you to work in that occupation in Saskatchewan.

If you are asked to provide more documents, your application will be held for processing. The SINP will tell you after you apply if your work experience and education match a job that requires additional documents.

A nomination from the SINP does not guarantee eligibility for licensure in a regulated occupation. You may need to complete other requirements when you arrive in Saskatchewan. For more information, visit Regulated Occupations and Licensing Requirements.

Finding Employment in Saskatchewan

Although the OID and EE categories do not require a skilled job offer in Saskatchewan, employment is a key criterion for other SINP categories. To pursue a SINP application under the employment categories you can begin your job search by visiting SaskJobs. This website allows you to search for jobs inside the province and in specific communities.

For more information on the SINP's category for applicants outside of Canada with job offers, please see International Skilled Worker: With an Employment Offer. Please see Finding Work for more information on how you can find employment in Saskatchewan.
