Supportive Housing Stream

The Saskatchewan Housing Benefit – Supportive Housing Stream provides a simple flat-rate benefit to help individuals in supportive housing rental units cover their rent and utility costs. This benefit stream is for individuals who live in Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC)-approved housing and receive on‑site support services from the housing provider or a third-party service provider under agreement with the housing provider.

The Saskatchewan Housing Benefit (SHB) is delivered by SHC and co-funded by the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan under the National Housing Strategy.

For eligible individuals, the monthly benefit amount depends on household size:

2. Eligibility

Clients must reside in a supportive housing rental unit and receive eligible support services, which may include:

  • individual and family counselling;
  • mental health counselling;
  • mental health support;
  • addictions counselling;
  • addictions management support;
  • family support services (e.g. parenting skills, child development, reunification, family planning);
  • elder support;
  • adult mentoring;
  • life-skills training;
  • education;
  • vocational and employment support;
  • home visits;
  • programs for people with a physical or cognitive disability; or
  • referrals to additional community support services.

The SHB Supportive Housing Stream is available by referral only, through an SHC‑approved referral organization. Please contact SHC to find out if your supportive housing organization is eligible to make referrals for this benefit.
