A 23-year-old female inmate on remand was declared deceased on Wednesday, January 3 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert.
The inmate was found unresponsive in a common area at Pine Grove Correctional Centre at approximately 12:50 p.m. Corrections staff initiated life saving measures and called EMS. EMS transported her to the hospital, where she was declared deceased at approximately 2:05 p.m.
The Prince Albert Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service have been notified and are investigating. The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety will also be conducting an internal investigation.
No foul play is suspected at this time.
