Saskatchewan Proclaims Food Day Canada

Released on August 1, 2024

Saskatchewan is proud to join with other provinces across Canada in proclaiming August 3, 2024, as Food Day Canada. The day is an opportunity to celebrate Canada's producers, processors, chefs, researchers and home cooks.

"Food Day Canada is a great opportunity for producers and the agriculture sector as a whole," Agriculture Minister David Marit said. "This day connects consumers who may not know much about our industry with leaders in agriculture and culinary fields to learn about where their food comes from."

Food Day Canada is one of the nation's largest and longest-running celebrations of the individuals who work to put food on the table. This year is the 21st anniversary for Food Day Canada.

The Government of Saskatchewan works closely with industry stakeholders to build awareness of Saskatchewan's modern agriculture practices. The ministry also supports associations like Agriculture in the Classroom, Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan and 4-H Saskatchewan in their efforts to build a connection between Saskatchewan residents and the food they eat.

Saskatchewan has a diverse agriculture and agri-food sector and is known worldwide as a reliable supplier of safe, sustainable and high-quality food. In 2023, Saskatchewan exported $20.2 billion in agri-food products, surpassing its 2030 Growth Plan goal of $20 billion.

There are several ways to get involved in Food Day Canada including trying a new recipe, learning how local producers grow food, visit your favourite local restaurant and more. Share your stories online using #FoodDayCanada and by tagging @FoodDayCanada.
