Protective Services Personnel Honoured With Medals For Exemplary And Long Service

Today, Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty will honour the latest recipients of the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal in Regina.

"Protective Services play an important role in ensuring the safety of our communities," Mirasty said.  "Today's medal presentations enable us to thank these courageous individuals for their effort and commitment to protecting the citizens of this province."

The medal honours personnel with 25 years or more of exemplary service in Saskatchewan in the protective services field, including police, fire, correctional, and border services, the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, as well as mobile crisis and family violence outreach services.

This year, the medal will be presented to 166 individuals from rural and urban communities from across the province.  The medals will be awarded at five ceremonies, two today in Regina, two in Saskatoon on September 22 and 23, and another September 23 in Prince Albert.  

Recipients receive a circular medal surmounted by St. Edward's Crown and a certificate signed by the Lieutenant Governor, Premier and Provincial Secretary.  The medal bears the motto Qui civitatem tuentur (who guard the citizenry).
