Supporting Our Veterans and Building Stronger Communities - Third Application Intake Opens

Released on November 9, 2021

The Government of Saskatchewan continues to strengthen the long-term sustainability of provincial service clubs - supporting veterans, their families and communities.

Introduced in 2019-20, the Saskatchewan Veterans Service Club Support Program provides grants for repairs and upgrades, special events, programs and activities to engage the community and advance the work of veterans' service organizations across the province.

"As we once again prepare to honour our veterans and keep the memories of our fallen heroes alive on Remembrance Day, I am proud to say that we have made significant strides with this program," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said. "In the first two intake periods for 2021-22, a total of 77 registered, non-profit military service clubs, Legion branches and Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans (ANAVETS) units based in Saskatchewan received funding grants in excess of $1.21 million."

For 2021-22, program funding was increased to $1.5 million. A third intake period is being opened on a rolling basis, or first come, first served, for the remainder of the year.

Administered by the Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command, who also sits on the adjudication committee with the Saskatchewan ANAVETS and the Government of Saskatchewan, the third intake will also be subject to the maximum annual amount per club of $25,000.

"We really appreciate the support of the Provincial Government toward Veterans Service Clubs," Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command President Keith Andrews said. "These clubs are an integral part of our communities around the province. This grant ensures the longevity and continuity of these landmarks."

"This program has been very successful for many of our Legion clubs and ANAVETS units," ANAVETS Saskatchewan Provincial Command President Rick Taylor said. "We look forward to participating once again, this time even more veterans and their loved ones will benefit from this greatly enhanced program."

For the second intake period, 38 registered, non-profit military service clubs, Legion branches and ANAVETS units based in Saskatchewan, received funding grants totalling more than $578,000.

More information about the program, guidelines, applications and eligibility are available through the Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command at 306-525-8739 or admin@sasklegion.ca.
