Global Community Celebrates Saskatchewan’s Approach To International Education

Released on November 4, 2021

Today, the Government of Saskatchewan hosted a virtual International Education Forum with partners from over 15 countries, the post-secondary sector and government to highlight the province's recently announced International Education Strategy.

"Growing knowledge in the sector will increase international recruitment and engagement opportunities, positioning Saskatchewan as a destination of choice for students," Advanced Education Minister Gene Makowsky said. "These connections are supporting the post-secondary sector to attract international students in innovative ways, while meeting commitments outlined in Saskatchewan's Growth Plan."

The virtual forum focused on the impact of the International Education Strategy for the future, with presenters from Saskatchewan's post-secondary sector, as well as British Columbia, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Manitoba. In addition, several individuals with Saskatchewan's post-secondary institutions were recognized for their leadership and contribution on the development of the strategy.

International students bring a global perspective to Saskatchewan and create opportunities for research and innovation. In collaboration with the international trade offices, the sector and government partners, relationships are being built in multiple countries to help strengthen the province's brand, while increasing trade and investment opportunities. Fostering new international partnerships will play a critical role in education and research opportunities in both Saskatchewan and abroad.

To further strengthen ties with educational institutions in other countries, the Government of Saskatchewan signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute in India earlier this week.

The development of the strategy was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Advanced Education, government partners, and Saskatchewan's post-secondary institutions. A number of initiatives related to global engagement, capacity building and leadership will enhance the province's profile over the next five years to attract key international markets and new markets.
