The Government of Saskatchewan is recognizing November 16 – 20 as Innovation Week.
“Innovation and technology have come a long way and is a significant economic driver in Saskatchewan for reaching many of the goals outlined in the Growth Plan,” Minister Responsible for Innovation Saskatchewan Jeremy Harrison said. “Advancing this field benefits areas of commerce, such as forestry, manufacturing and agriculture, by increasing productivity and exports. The Government of Saskatchewan is taking bold steps to ensure Saskatchewan’s tech-sector stays strong during the next ten years of growth.”
This week provides an opportunity to recognize the importance and achievements of innovation in the province, as well as celebrate innovative people, organizations and companies in our communities, and inspire the next generation of innovators.
Over the past decade, significant investments have been made in public research and innovation, helping attract world-class researchers and research institutions. From the cutting–edge VIDO-InterVac COVID-19 vaccine research, to enhanced oil and gas recovery methods, innovations developed right here in Saskatchewan have shaped and will continue to shape the province and beyond.
Innovation Week will also be celebrated nationally with Canadian Innovation Week 2020, with the theme Resilience through Innovation. The annual event is going virtual this year due to the pandemic. Innovative thinking is essential for navigating through this unprecedented time. Canadian ingenuity, creativity and persistence are helping to build a better Canada.
