The Ministry of Corrections and Policing is providing $770,000 to the City of Meadow Lake for policing initiatives through the Municipal Police Grants program. This grant will fund seven existing Meadow Lake RCMP positions in 2020-21.
“We are proud to provide this funding to help support policing initiatives in Meadow Lake,” Trade and Export Development Minister and Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison said on behalf of Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell. “This funding will help the RCMP in its ability to protect citizens.”
The Municipal Police Grant supports enhanced community policing throughout the city and works to ensure a safer community, which is a top priority for the Government of Saskatchewan.
“I would like to thank the province for the support they provide to our police service through this funding,” Meadow Lake Mayor Merlin Seymour said. “Our local police detachment provides many vital services for our residents and this funding allows them to continue crime reduction and community-based policing initiatives. We look forward to working together with the province and our local police to keep Meadow Lake a safe and vibrant community.”
The Ministry of Corrections and Policing provides funds to urban police services across Saskatchewan through the Municipal Police Grants program to support 129 municipal police positions and targeted policing initiatives.
