Planning And Design To Begin On New K-12 School In Carrot River

Students And Staff In Carrot River Will Soon Have A New Kindergarten To Grade 12 (K-12) School

Today, Premier Scott Moe joined local Carrot River Valley MLA Fred Bradshaw and officials from North East School Division (NESD) to announce the beginning of planning and design for the new school.  The new facility will replace and consolidate Carrot River Elementary and High School.  This new school is part of the government’s $7.5 billion two-year capital plan to build a strong Saskatchewan and stimulate our economic recovery following the pandemic.

“This is the first new school construction in Carrot River in more than 40 years and this new school will provide a modern, safe and welcoming learning environment for students and staff of this community for years to come,” Moe said.  “It is important that we continue to invest in education infrastructure around the province to aid in our economic recovery and plan for the future of our growing province.”

The new school project will attach to the existing high school gym, which was constructed as an addition to the current high school in 2005.  The school will offer modern, 21st century learning spaces to accommodate up to 400 K-12 students.

Construction is scheduled to begin sometime in 2021 once the design and planning phase is completed.  Construction is expected to be complete in 2023 with an estimated cost of $21 million.

“On behalf of the NESD, we would like to recognize and thank the current government for this action as well as the community and surrounding area of Carrot River,” NESD Board Chair Luke Perkins said.  “This is a huge investment into a thriving and bustling community and we are thrilled to start this new chapter in such a wonderful place.  The hard work done by staff at the NESD and the community of Carrot River has paid off, and we are very much looking forward to beginning this new chapter.”

Since 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $1.9 billion toward school infrastructure projects.  This includes 57 new or replacement schools as well as 28 major renovations.

In addition, over the next two years the Government of Saskatchewan is investing $7.5 billion in infrastructure projects.  This includes the $2 billion capital injection to help build a strong Saskatchewan and stimulate our province’s economic recovery.  More than $135 million of this stimulus package will go toward four new schools, two major renovations, and many maintenance projects for school divisions in communities across the province.
