The Government of Saskatchewan continues to work in partnership with rural municipalities to improve highway infrastructure.
Agreements are in place to provide funding, on a cost-shared basis, for improvements, ranging from reconstruction to paving to transitioning to a primary weight supergrid highway. The estimated value of the agreements is nearly $70 million and includes contributions of about $18.4 million from the municipalities.
“Providing safe and reliable infrastructure in communities across the province will enhance the quality of life for our citizens,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Greg Ottenbreit said. “We as government can do more when we work together with municipalities on these type of partnership opportunities.”
The ministry has signed the following partnership agreements:
- Highways 18 and 28 - RM of Souris Valley, Lake Alma, Surprise Valley and Laurier
- McKague Access - RM of Barrier
- Highways 318 and 361 - RM of Reciprocity
- Frenchman Butte Access - Highway 21 - RM of Frenchman Butte
- Highway 317 - RM of Antelope Park and Milton
- Highway 376 - RM of Mayfield and Lakeside
The ministry is currently negotiating with several other RMs for similar agreements.
