Province Proclaims Co-Operatives Week

Today, the Government of Saskatchewan proclaimed October 13 – 19 as Co-operatives Week in Saskatchewan to recognize the outstanding contributions co-operatives make to our province’s economy and communities.

“Co-operative businesses provide products and services, create jobs and improve the quality of life for our communities all over Saskatchewan,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said on behalf of Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison.  “With more than 900 co-operatives currently operating in the province, our government recognizes the immense economic value and investment attraction this partnership brings.”

Co-operative businesses employ more than 15,000 Saskatchewan people and are active in numerous sectors, including manufacturing, financial services, agriculture, retail, child care, health care and many more.

The profits and benefits that are generated by co-operatives largely stay in our communities and this plays a vital role in the sustainable economic development of our province.

A number of events will be taking place around the province to celebrate Co-operatives Week including a flag raising ceremony, the Co-op Week Luncheon and the Saskatchewan Co-Operative Merit Awards.
