A new clinic has opened in Prince Albert to help people in need of addictions services and support.
The Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine (RAAM) clinic provides quick access to specialized addictions treatment services. A multi-disciplinary care team of physicians, nurses, and addictions counsellors helps individuals get started on a treatment journey. It connects individuals to services including ongoing addictions treatment, mental health services and other community programs.
“RAAM clinics are a positive addition to our province’s suite of addictions treatment services,” Crown Investments Corporation Minister and Prince Albert Carlton MLA Joe Hargrave said on behalf of Health Minister Jim Reiter. “People with addictions challenges have support from a team of health care professionals who can help them reach their goals for a healthy life. I know RAAM clinics will have a positive impact on our health care system and on the health and wellness of people with addictions challenges.”
RAAM clinics have been established in other parts of Canada, including Ontario and Manitoba. These clinics have reduced emergency department visits, shortened wait times and improved outcomes for patients
.
“A significant thank you must go to our team of physicians in Prince Albert who have demonstrated a commitment to supporting people with substance use disorder,” Saskatchewan Health Authority Director of Mental Health and Addictions Services for the Northeast Jennifer Suchorab said. “We are excited by what this service means for improving access to addictions services in our community. Thank you to the Government of Saskatchewan for their support of this initiative.”
The Government of Saskatchewan provided $1.6 million in its 2019-20 Budget to support the launch of three RAAM clinics in Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon.
