Today, Premier Scott Moe gathered with dignitaries, veterans and members of the Saskatchewan public service in the Rotunda of the Legislative Building to remember public servants who have given their lives in times of war and to commemorate the eightieth anniversary of the beginning of the Second World War.
“Eighty years ago, brave men and women from Saskatchewan and across Canada stood together to defend our country during the Second World War,” Moe said. “Too many of them never made it home. Today, we remember those who fell and those who returned home, all of whom fought to ensure our freedom.”
Following the service, the Premier laid a wreath at the Saskatchewan War Memorial, which is located on the Legislative grounds to the west of the Legislative Building. The memorial lists the names of Saskatchewan’s fallen soldiers over the generations.
The Saskatchewan Virtual War Memorial, managed by the Saskatchewan War Memorial Committee, is an online website to commemorate Saskatchewan citizens who lost their lives in war. The site features more than 11,000 war casualties and their stories. The site complements the physical war memorial.
