New Community Recovery Team Launches In Swift Current

Swift Current has a new Community Recovery Team (CRT) to provide more intensive supports for people living with complex, persistent mental health challenges.  The Government of Saskatchewan has provided $4.2 million in targeted funding to launch Community Recovery Teams in Swift Current and seven other communities across Saskatchewan.

“Community Recovery Teams provide intensive care in the community, and connect clients with the supports they need to manage their mental health challenges,” Swift Current MLA Everett Hindley said on behalf of Health Minister Jim Reiter.  “I am pleased this important support service is now up and running in Swift Current to help those with complex mental health needs live vibrant lives in our community.”

CRTs use a holistic, team-based approach to help clients manage symptoms, achieve their personal goals, and thrive in the community.  The seven-person Swift Current CRT includes three community mental health nurses, a team lead, a social worker, an occupational therapist and an addictions worker.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this new service to the people of Swift Current and area,” Saskatchewan Health Authority Executive Director of Primary Health Care Bryce Martin said.  “The Community Recovery Team allows our team to be flexible and to build and deliver a care plan that best suits the patient’s need, whatever that need is.  The varied skill set of the CRT gives the patient a broad range of supports to help improve their health and well-being.”

CRTs support Saskatchewan’s Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan and are also being launched in Regina, Prince Albert, North Battleford, Yorkton, Weyburn, Moose Jaw and Saskatoon.

Funding comes from the Canada-Saskatchewan Bilateral Funding Agreement announced in January 2017.  The federal government is providing Saskatchewan with close to $350 million over 10 years for targeted incremental investments in home and community care and mental health and addiction services.
