Today, Social Services Minister Paul Merriman joined community members, dignitaries and group home residents in Regina to celebrate the grand opening of a new Christian Horizons group home.The home will provide residential supports for six former residents of Valley View Centre. The Government of Saskatchewan provided $533,451 in annual funding for the home.
“I’m happy to be in Regina again to celebrate the grand opening of another home operated by Christian Horizons,” Merriman said. “Our community partners play a large role in ensuring we have inclusive communities around our province, and we are thankful for the supports they provide.”
Christian Horizons receives more than $10 million in annual funding from the Ministry of Social Services to provide supports for people with disabilities. In addition to operating 16 group homes across the province, they provide day options and person-directed supports.
“Christian Horizons believes everyone is created in the image of God with unique gifts,” Christian Horizons Executive Director Ann Gyurmanczi said. “We are excited to be working with the people who live here, as they share their gifts with family, friends, and neighbours. Communities are better when everyone belongs.”
This new group home supports the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy by creating residential services for people with disabilities. Saskatchewan residents and communities that have done work that aligns with the Disability Strategy are encouraged to share their accomplishments using the hashtag #SKDisability.
