Today, Premier Scott Moe, joined together with members of the Prairie Spirit School Division, students, teachers, and local community members to break ground on the start of construction of the new Rosthern school project.
The estimated $25 million project will be built to replace Rosthern Elementary School and Rosthern High School.
“Our continued investment into Saskatchewan’s schools will directly and positively impact the future success of our students,” Moe said. “Our government is pleased to contribute to this new facility that will benefit the entire community of Rosthern for years to come. We strongly believe students deserve a great place to learn and a school that excites them and fills them with pride.”
Designed by Group 2 Architecture, the new school in Rosthern is scheduled to open in the fall of 2020. It consolidates two existing schools, Rosthern Elementary School and Rosthern High School and will make room for approximately 450 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. It will feature new classrooms, practical and applied arts space, a new resource centre, full-size gym and common areas, and new administration offices. It will also house a 30 space child care facility, resulting in early learning, elementary and secondary education under one roof.
“The new school project in Rosthern will serve our students and the community of Rosthern,” Prairie Spirit Board Chair Sam Dyck said. “We are all eagerly anticipating the opening of this amazing school facility. We know it will offer exciting learning opportunities to our students, our staff and the community.”
Since 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $1.6 billion toward 67 major school capital projects and numerous smaller projects such as portable classrooms and preventative maintenance and renewal.
