In 2018-19, the Government of Saskatchewan is investing more than $2 million for facility and infrastructure improvements in provincial parks in the southeast region.
“Our provincial parks are special places for many Saskatchewan families,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said. “Park facility and infrastructure updates are a priority, so that we can meet the changing needs of our park visitors and ensure everyone has enjoyable trips to the parks for years to come.”
Upgrades scheduled for completion prior to the 2019 camping season in the southeast region include:
- New visitor reception centre, new full service campsites and a new potable water treatment system at Echo Valley Provincial Park;
- Campground electrical system upgrades and renovations to the historic stone retaining wall near the chalet building at Moose Mountain Provincial Park;
- Trailer sewage disposal expansion at Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park; and
- Additional improvements to campsites, picnic tables, barbecues, trails, washrooms and other facilities, infrastructure and equipment throughout the southeast region.
The $2 million is in addition to more than $7.5 million invested in southeast parks over the past five years for improvements including:
- Upgrades to electric and full service campsites;
- Service centre replacement, parking lot improvements and boat launch upgrades;Campground service centre upgrades;
- new playground equipment; and
- Historic building improvements.
More than $11 million will be spent this year improving and expanding Saskatchewan’s provincial parks. Planned improvements for 2018-19 throughout the park system will increase total investment in parks to nearly $110 million over the last decade.
Saskatchewan’s provincial parks continue to be an important destination, attracting visitors and bringing economic benefits to the entire province.
