Construction Begins for a New Affordable Housing Project in Regina

“It is an honour for the City of Regina to once again offer its support to Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. as it begins work on this latest project,” Fougere said.  “With the opening of its brand new development on Dewdney Avenue in November, we see a local developer demonstrating their commitment to providing robust access to families who are in need of affordable, supportive, quality housing.”

“Many of our residents need stable housing to succeed, and we seek to improve their access to opportunity,” Bellegarde said.   “Through our continued building of capacity, we have been able to enter into these funding partnerships and help families in our community to heal and to live in safety and comfort as they begin to move forward with their lives.”

Quick Facts:

• This project will provide permanent housing for hard-to-house families.  The homes will be located on two lots in close proximity, 1346 Forget Street and 5029 - 7th Avenue.  The project consists of the construction of six three-bedroom duplexes, each averaging 1,198 square feet.
• The federal and provincial governments, through CMHC and SHC, are jointly contributing $900,100 toward the six units under the Canada-Saskatchewan 2016-2018 Social Infrastructure Fund Allocation Increase.
• An additional $150,000 in funding will be provided by the City of Regina.
• Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. will contribute approximately $1 million in the form of cash/land equity and mortgage financing.
• This investment supports the Saskatchewan Housing Strategy and Poverty Reduction Strategy goal of ensuring Saskatchewan people have affordable, safe, secure and stable housing, including those who are hard-to-house.
• It also supports the Province’s Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan goal to increase community capacity to support people living with persistent and complex mental health and addictions issues, including housing and intensive team-based supports.
