Wholesale trade in July was up 9.9 per cent over June (seasonally adjusted), the highest percentage increase among the provinces. Nationally, wholesale trade was up only 1.5 per cent.
“July’s nation leading wholesale trade growth shows that our economy is making gains,” Economy Minister Steven Bonk said. “It is a strong leading economic indicator, showing that retailers and wholesalers have demand for their products now and into the future.”
Wholesale trade totalled $2.4 billion in July. Major increases were reported for motor vehicles and parts, building materials and supplies, machinery and equipment and supplies.
On an annual basis, wholesale trade was up 11.9 per cent, ranking fourth among the provinces.
