Today, Melfort MLA Kevin Phillips, on behalf of Education Minister Bronwyn Eyre, joined students, dignitaries, representatives from the Horizon School Division, and community members in St. Brieux to celebrate the official opening of the expansion and renovation project at St. Brieux School.
The Government of Saskatchewan committed approximately $8 million toward the project. Horizon School Division’s Board of Education has also approved approximately $1.35 million for additional upgrades.
“I am excited, not only for the students and staff that are going to benefit from the renovation to the school in St. Brieux, but for the community as well,” Phillips said. “This is a tremendous project that will serve this area well for years to come.”
“Our government is delighted to join with the community of St. Brieux to celebrate the opening of this exciting project,” Education Minister Bronwyn Eyre said. “Students will benefit from the expansion and renovation of the school, and we thank Horizon School Division and the community for their commitment to make this project a reality. Investing in education continues to be a priority for our government and projects like this have a positive impact on our students.”
The newly-renovated St. Brieux School offers students a spacious learning environment and more programming, including three new classrooms, Industrial Arts lab, Practical and Applied Arts space, cooking and clothing lab, new washrooms, and the expansion of both the library and the main entrance.
“As a board, we could not be more proud to have partnered with the Ministry of Education on this important project,” Horizon School Division Board of Education Chairperson Jim Hack said. “We are thrilled that this remarkable facility is now available for St. Brieux, to accommodate the growth of their community and support the continued success of their students.”
The newly-renovated St. Brieux School is one of 21 major capital projects completed by the Government of Saskatchewan in time for the opening of the 2017-18 school year – including 18 elementary schools on nine joint-use sites in the communities of Regina, Saskatoon, Warman and Martensville.
Since 2007, the government has committed approximately $1.5 billion toward 67 major school capital projects and numerous smaller projects such as portable classrooms and preventative maintenance and renewal.
