Saskatchewan Celebrates Provincial Students' Day

Released on September 5, 2017

As the school year commences, Education Minister Bronwyn Eyre is pleased to recognize Provincial Students’ Day and the return of more than 179,000 students to Saskatchewan’s schools for the 2017-18 school year.

“A new school year always brings with it a sense of enthusiasm,” Eyre said.  “I welcome that enthusiasm and welcome Saskatchewan’s students back to school and would also like to recognize the effort and dedication of all the teachers, administrators and support staff who are ready to get started.”

Provincial Students’ Day is celebrated across Saskatchewan and serves as a reminder to drivers about the need to respect school zone speed limits and the need for increased awareness in and around Saskatchewan’s schools.

“On behalf of school boards across the province, we want to thank the Government of Saskatchewan for continuing to proclaim Provincial Students’ Day each year,” Saskatchewan School Boards Association President Dr. Shawn Davidson said.  “Recognizing this day reminds communities that students are back in school and keeps safety top-of-mind.  This message is particularly important for motorists who will be driving in and around school zones.”

At the request of the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, the Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed the first day back to school as Provincial Students’ Day annually since 2010.
