The public is invited to an outdoor ceremony on October 25 when Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield will formally open the Second Session of the Twenty-Eighth Legislature with the Speech from the Throne at the Saskatchewan Legislature.
The public is invited to attend the outdoor portion of the ceremony, which begins at 1:25 p.m. in front of the Legislative Building at 2405 Legislative Drive. Her Honour will be greeted by Premier Brad Wall and Provincial Secretary Nadine Wilson. The ceremony also includes a Royal Salute, the inspection of a Canadian Forces Guard of Honour, a 15 Gun Salute by the 10th Field Artillery – 38 Canadian Brigade Group, and a flypast by 15 Wing Moose Jaw.
“This tradition is an integral and unique part of Saskatchewan’s history,” Wall said. “It is important that we mark this important day before the House gets down to doing the work that will keep our province strong.”
The formal opening of the Legislative Assembly has taken place to mark each session since 1906, when representatives of the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary first gathered to hear Lieutenant Governor Amédee Forget.
