Released on October 4, 2017
A Saskatoon company pleaded guilty to two violations of occupational health and safety regulations.
On September 28, Kamineski Deptuck Holdings Ltd. pleaded guilty to:
- contravening section 91 of the regulations (fail to ensure that workers wear approved industrial protective headwear); and
- contravening subsection 116(2) of the regulations (fail to ensure that workers use a fall protection system at a work area where a worker may fall three metres or more).
The company was fined $500 plus a $200 surcharge on each count, for total fines of $1,400 in Saskatoon Provincial Court. Charges were laid after workers were observed not using fall or personal protective equipment by an Occupational Health Officer during an inspection on June 20, 2016, near Saskatoon. No incident occurred, and luckily no one was injured.
Falls from heights can cause serious injuries and are easy to prevent. To learn more about fall prevention, business owners and employees are encouraged to contact WorkSafe Saskatchewan or their industry safety association for recommendations on equipment and training.
