City of Yorkton Receives $330,000 for Targeted Policing Initiatives

Released on November 23, 2017

The Government of Saskatchewan is taking action to ensure the safety of Yorkton communities and families through the Municipal Police Grants.

This provincial contribution of $330,000 will fund three existing Yorkton RCMP positions in 2017-18.

“Community safety is a major priority for the Government of Saskatchewan,” Rural and Remote Health Minister and Yorkton MLA Greg Ottenbreit said on behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan.  “This grant provides the support needed for those hardworking police officers dedicated to protecting Yorkton and area.”

The Municipal Police Grant supports enhanced community policing throughout the city.  The three officer positions are dedicated to targeted programs as members of the city’s RCMP police service.

“The province’s ongoing funding of the Municipal Police Grant is greatly appreciated,” Yorkton Mayor Bob Maloney said.  “This funding provides us with the capacity to acquire specialized skills that enhances our ability to ensure the safety of Yorkton families.”

The provincial government provides funds to urban police services across the province to support 128 municipal police positions and policing initiatives.  In combination with the Provincial Response Team, this grant fulfills the government’s commitment to supporting the policing services within the province’s municipalities.
