Today, Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart presented four agriculture scholarships to students from across the province.
“These young individuals are the future of our industry and their enthusiasm for agriculture is inspiring,” Stewart said. “I would like to congratulate the four scholarship winners and thank them, along with all of the other applicants, for their dedication to the industry.”
Amanda Mitchell of Bracken, received $4,000 toward her agriculture-related post-secondary studies as the grand-prize winner of the 2017 Agriculture Student Scholarship. Amanda’s winning video submission tells the story of a piece of bread and describes her farm’s role in wheat production from seeding to harvest and beyond.
“There are so many misconceptions and myths surrounding agriculture,” Amanda said. “I wanted to be able to show how food comes from real farms with real people.”
Brayden Fraser of Churchbridge, Rachael Enns of Osler and Dena Lamb of Regina have each received runner-up scholarships valued at $2,000.
Applicants were required to provide a letter of reference and submit a 1,000 word fact-based essay or a three minute video based on their own personal food story.
“I would like to congratulate the four winners of this year’s scholarship and thank them, along with all of the other applicants, for their dedication to the industry,” Stewart said.
The Student Scholarship Program identifies young agriculture AGvocates and leverages their passion to tell the story of Saskatchewan agriculture.
