Engineering and Geoscience Week Proclaimed in Saskatchewan

Released on March 6, 2017

The Government of Saskatchewan has officially proclaimed the week of March 5-11, as Engineering and Geoscience Week.  The week recognizes the significant contributions members of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) make in the province.

“The men and women of APEGS are responsible for designing our new bridges, roads, schools, health care facilities and other infrastructure,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said.  “Their work is relied upon across Saskatchewan, and this week we celebrate their achievements.”

The work of APEGS has a considerable role in a variety of sectors including agriculture, construction, environment, forestry, manufacturing, mining, resources, utilities, health care, education, transportation and resources.

“As engineers and geoscientists, we work to ensure public safety through regulations and safeguards,” APEGS President Tara Zrymiak said.  “Our more than 12,000 members play an increasing role in economic development and, through innovation, we’re proud to help shape the future of Saskatchewan.”

APEGS is the governing body responsible for regulating the practice of engineering and geoscience professionals in the province.  Numerous activities have been planned for Engineering and Geoscience Week to help commemorate the profession, including a media campaign featuring billboards, TV commercials and newspaper inserts.
