Government House Is the Place to Be This Summer
Released on June 26, 2017
The summer season is upon us and Government House is offering expanded hours to welcome everyone to experience its summer programs and special summer events.
Government House and the Amédée Forget Museum are now open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week for fun and adventure, and admission is always free.
“Saskatchewan citizens always look forward to the bright sunshine and longer days that summertime brings,” Minister Responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Christine Tell said. “With its family-friendly atmosphere and beautiful grounds, Government House is a perfect place to spend a beautiful summer day in Regina for residents and visitors alike.”
This year Government House is hosting a special exhibit as part of the celebrations for Canada’s 150th anniversary. The Canada: Day 1 Exhibit uses video, photos and artifacts to explore and tell the stories of new Canadians upon their arrival in Canada. In that same spirit, Government House will host the Lieutenant Governor’s Canada Day Celebrations on July 1, featuring entertainment, children’s activities and more.
Visitors can also look forward to seeing the beautiful Edwardian Gardens on the popular Not Who, but Watt garden tour, guided by acclaimed storyteller Vincent Murphy in the role of the original groundskeeper, George Watt. You’ll also be entertained by performers re-enacting the lives of Saskatchewan’s first Lieutenant Governor Amédée Forget and his wife, Henriette, in the engaging theatrical History Alive! Vignettes.
Whether it’s a Victorian Tea in the Henry Newlands Ballroom, scavenger hunts, a picnic lunch from the Butler’s Pantry to enjoy on the lawn, or taking in the exhibits at The Queen Elizabeth II Gallery or the museum itself, there’s lots to see and do at Government House this summer.
