New Clare Parker Group Home Opens in Regina

Social Services Minister Tina Beaudry-Mellor attended a grand opening ceremony today for a new Clare Parker Homes Inc. group home in Regina. The group home supports three individuals who have transitioned from Valley View Centre into Regina. 

“The grand opening of this new Clare Parker group home represents another step forward in our government’s support for community living,”  Beaudry-Mellor said. “The three individuals who have transitioned from Valley View Centre into a Regina community setting will experience a very exciting change in their quality of life: a life of choice, independence and belonging.” 

Clare Parker Homes is a community-based organization that provides high-quality, personalized community living supports for adults experiencing intellectual disabilities. They currently operate five group homes and support 24 individuals with disabilities in the Regina area. 

The Government of Saskatchewan provided Clare Parker Homes with mortgage residential lease payments of more than $60,000, along with more than $440,000 in annual operating funding. 

“All of us at Clare Parker Homes are excited about the opportunity to support these three individuals in this new journey in their lives,” Clare Parker Homes Executive Director Rosa Smith said. “Living in one’s own home allows people a certain sense of pride, and the chance to develop relationships, interests and hobbies outside of themselves. We are grateful that we were chosen to develop this home for these three great guys.” 

The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to supporting individuals experiencing disability so they can fully enjoy their rights and freedoms and participate in their communities. 

In June 2015, a comprehensive Disability Strategy was released which includes six priority areas: transportation, respite, accessibility legislation, residential services, service co-ordination and navigation, and awareness/understanding of the rights of people experiencing disabilities.
