Government of Saskatchewan Congratulates First Nations Summer Games Participants

The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to congratulate participants of the 2017 Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games as the athletes make their way home.

Hosted by File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council, the games took place in Regina from August 6-11.  The event welcomed approximately 5,000 athletes, coaches, chaperones and officials from 74 Saskatchewan First Nations communities from 10 Tribal Councils.

“Our government congratulates all athletes, coaches and teams on a successful summer games,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said.  “The hard work and dedication of all those involved is evident in the accomplishments of these young and promising athletes, and in the comradery shared between communities.”

Initiated in 1974, the Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games aims to support a legacy of enhanced sport development, culture, volunteerism and youth development.  Open to Saskatchewan First Nations athletes aged 13-18, the games offer competition in nine sports: archery, athletics, beach volleyball, canoeing, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer and softball.
