Prince Albert Company Fined for Worker Injury

Released on April 25, 2017

Daniel Manary, operating as Danbo Construction, has been fined a total of $14,000 for violating one count under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.

The Prince Albert company, working in Emma Lake at the time of the incident, pleaded guilty on April 13, 2017, to contravening subsection 91(4) of the regulations (being an employer, failed where a worker is required to use industrial protective headwear, to provide a suitable liner where it is necessary to protect the worker from cold conditions, and a retention system to secure the industrial protective headwear firmly on the worker’s head where the worker is likely to work in conditions that may cause the headwear to dislodge, resulting in the serious injury to a worker).

Manary was fined $10,000 with a $4,000 surcharge.

The incident occurred on January 8, 2016 when a worker, who was not wearing protective headwear, was struck in the head by a board that had slipped off a roof.

While everyone is responsible to create and maintain a safe and healthy workplace, employers carry the greatest responsibility because of their authority and control over the worksite.

The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety works to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses through education, inspections, and prosecutions.
