Bea Fisher Centre Group Living Four-Plex and Independent Living Suites Officially Open in Lloydminster

Lloydminster MLA Colleen Young, on behalf of Social Services Minister Tina Beaudry-Mellor, today attended a grand opening ceremony for a new Bea Fisher Centre home in Lloydminster.

The four-plex home provides group living supports for five individuals who experience intellectual disabilities and also has two independent living units which allow participants to live as independently as possible in a supportive environment.

“The Bea Fisher Centre is a valuable organization that provides services and supports that benefit individuals who experience disabilities, their loved ones, and our Lloydminster community as a whole,” Young said.  “I am proud of our government’s partnership with the Bea Fisher Centre and our ongoing commitments to this organization as we work together to achieve the targets in the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy.  Together, we will provide greater dignity to those with disabilities as we make Saskatchewan a more inclusive, accessible and welcoming province for individuals of all abilities and strengths.”

The Bea Fisher Centre has been supporting individuals experiencing intellectual disabilities since 1972.  They provide residential and day programming and supported independent living supports for approximately 115 individuals in the Lloydminster area through their three group homes, community-based day program and supportive living program.

“The Bea Fisher Centre is grateful for the partnership we have with the Saskatchewan Government,” Bea Fisher Centre CEO George Zaychkowsky said.  “Their support of this project gives joy to the individuals and their families, and they too are grateful because they can now begin services.”

The Government of Saskatchewan provided $250,000 to this project, along with funding for a mortgage up to $900,000.
