Employer Fined for Lack of Fall Protection Systems

Released on September 6, 2016

Dave Bernier has been fined $2,800 for violating two counts under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.

The Saskatoon employer pleaded guilty on August 31, 2016, to contravening section 91 (failure to ensure that workers wear approved industrial protective headwear) and subsection 116(2) of the regulations (failure to ensure that workers use a fall protection system at a work area where a worker may fall three metres or more).  The employer had an additional charge that was stayed.

Charges stem from an observation made by an Occupational Health Officer on January 14, 2016, when the officer witnessed three workers shingling a roof without any fall protection systems in place.
