Today Education Minister Don Morgan joined students, teachers, dignitaries and representatives from the Good Spirit School Division to celebrate the official grand opening of Langenburg’s new Prekindergarten-12 school. The Government of Saskatchewan invested $23 million toward this project.“Our government recognized the need for a new school for the students and families in Langenburg, which is why I’m pleased to be here today to celebrate the completion of this important project,” Morgan said. “This new building is a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to share ideas and help create a truly amazing learning environment for our students.”
The new Langenburg Central School consolidates the elementary and high school and is equipped to educate more than 370 students, including 16 Prekindergarten spaces. Its features include open concept learning spaces allowing for more natural light, and a gymnasium and multi-purpose room that are connected to one large stage. Also included in the new school is a fitness room, practical and applied arts spaces and a science lab.
“Langenburg Central School has been equipped with state-of-the-art technology, a large stage to showcase this community’s love of the arts and a PAA lab designed to enhance trades and technology instruction,” Good Spirit School Division Board Chair Lois Smandych said. “We appreciate of all the amenities housed within these walls, as we know they will serve as a compliment to the dedication and expertise of the Langenburg Central School staff.”
“The entire Langenburg Central School family is brimming with excitement as we begin our new journey as a Prekindergarten-12 school,” Langenburg Central School Principal Mick Parmar said. “The new building is gorgeous and we are so thankful for this gift. We recognize the efforts of all stakeholders at the ministry, division and local level, and appreciate the instrumental role they played, along with architects from AODBT and TL Penner construction, to complete this fabulous project.”
Since November 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $1.4 billion toward 65 major school capital projects and numerous smaller projects such as portable classrooms and preventative maintenance and renewal.
