Family Fun at "Bump in the Night!" Event

Released on October 28, 2016

For families with young ghouls and goblins, Government House is the place to be this Sunday.  The museum invites the public to join the fun at “Bump in the Night!” — a free Halloween-themed event.

This event features magic shows in the ballroom, an opportunity to solve a mystery in the museum, crafts and a costume contest.

“Government House is pleased to offer Saskatchewan families a fun Halloween experience at a historic site,” Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Christine Tell said.  “It is events like these that add to the quality of life in our communities.”

Built 125 years ago, Government House was once the home of the Lieutenant Governor of the Northwest Territories before Saskatchewan existed.  The building now serves as the official office of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan and a public museum.  Government House offers a variety of year-round programs to engage visitors of all ages and interests.

Rumour has it the building currently serves as the residence of the province’s most popular apparition, Howie the ghost.  Howie is thought to be the ghost of Cheun Lee, who served as a chef at Government House until 1938.  Several staff members have experienced the presence of Howie, from footsteps in the halls at night to moving chairs and thrown tablecloths.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, at Government House, located at 4607 Dewdney Avenue, Regina.
