Gravelbourg Celebrates the Opening of PreK-12 School

Released on October 18, 2016

Today Deputy Premier and Education Minister Don Morgan joined students, teachers, dignitaries and representatives from the Prairie South School Division to celebrate the newly consolidated Prekindergarten-12 École Gravelbourg School.  The Government of Saskatchewan has committed nearly $10 million toward this project.

“This is an exciting time to celebrate for the great people of Gravelbourg,” Morgan said.  “This innovative project was made possible thanks to the exceptional work of the school division and the entire community.  Their hard work and imagination has helped provide all students in Gravelbourg with a much improved school that will support their educational needs for years to come.”

This new school facility combines the elementary and high school making room for approximately 300 students.  It includes more than 11,000 square feet of additional space as well as the renovation of the current high school, five new classrooms, practical and applied arts space, a new library and media centre, multipurpose and common areas, and new administration offices.

The 47-space Play & Learn Daycare is now connected to the existing high school resulting in early learning, elementary and secondary education under one roof.

“The board is very proud of our beautiful new dual-track PreK-12 school in Gravelbourg,” Prairie South School Division Board Chair Dr. Shawn Davidson said.  “We have enjoyed a very rewarding partnership with the Town of Gravelbourg and the Ministry of Education as we built the school, and this will lead to a great future for children and families in Gravelbourg.”

“For the first time in over 50 years we are in a PreK-12 building in Gravelbourg,” École Gravelbourg School Principal Jody Lehmann said.  “This is an exciting time for our staff and students as we settle in to our new building and get to know each other.”

“After much anticipation, we are thrilled to celebrate the grand re-opening of École Gravelbourg School,” École Gravelbourg School Student Council President Kayla Jacobs said.  “The students and students' representative council are ecstatic to see what this upgraded school and new facilities will bring to school activities.”

Since 2007, The Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $1.4 billion toward 65 major school capital projects and numerous smaller projects such as portable classrooms and preventative maintenance and renewal.
