Thank You Saskatchewan Foster Families

Released on October 17, 2016

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed October 16-22 as Foster Families Week, as a way of thanking and recognizing all the dedicated and caring foster families across the province.

“Foster families are willing to step in and make life better for vulnerable children and youth,” Social Services Minister Tina Beaudry-Mellor said.  “In addition to providing a safe, nurturing home, these folks are often helping children with very complex needs.”

“We want to express our deepest gratitude for Saskatchewan's foster parents and are honoured to support them in this important work,” Saskatchewan Foster Families Association Executive Director Deb Davies said.  “Through their hard work and compassion, foster parents are providing hope and a future for children in need.”

Foster Families Week kicks-off tonight with a banquet in Prince Albert followed by appreciation events throughout the province for the remainder of the week.

Currently, there are about 500 ministry-approved foster homes across the province.  These families open their homes and their hearts so that children in need have a nurturing place to grow.
