Company Fined $2,100 for Failing to Report Incident to OHS

Released on October 12, 2016

Thunder Ridge Farms Ltd. pleaded guilty to one charge under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation in Blaine Lake Provincial Court on October 6.  The Leask company was fined $1,500 plus a $600 surcharge.

The company pleaded guilty to contravening clause 8(1)(b) of the regulations (failure to give notice to the division as soon as is reasonably possible of every accident at a place of employment that will require a worker to be admitted to a hospital as an in-patient for a period of 72 hours or more).

Charges stem from an incident on October 29, 2014.  A worker suffered several broken bones after the zoom boom he was standing on approximately 25-30 feet in the air was tipped by a falling tree.

Employers and contractors are required to notify OHS if a worker sustains an injury that requires them to be in the hospital for three days or longer.  The notice must contain the names and contact information of the employee and the employer, the date, time and location of the incident, a description of what happened, and what the apparent injuries are.

To report an incident to the Occupational Health and Safety Division, please call 1-800-667-5023 in Saskatoon or 1-800-567-7233 in Regina.
