Death in Custody at Saskatoon Correctional Centre

Released on October 11, 2016

An adult male inmate at Saskatoon Correctional Centre was found unresponsive in a holding cell at approximately 6pm Saturday, October 8.  EMS and Saskatoon City Police were immediately notified and attended the facility but unfortunately the inmate was pronounced dead a short time later.  SPS continue to investigate the incident.

The Coroner's Office has been notified and will conduct an investigation that will likely result in a formal inquest.  Additionally, the Ministry will conduct its own internal investigation to assess the performance of policies, procedures and staff response to the incident.
