Saskatchewan's Top Cadet Units Recognized

Released on October 4, 2016

There is no need to take to the skies or open water to see the contributions made by Saskatchewan’s air, military and sea Cadet Corps and Squadrons — today, the great work by some of their highest achievers is being showcased at the first of three recognition events.

Saskatchewan’s Provincial Military Liaison, Greg Lawrence will present the Saskatchewan Premier’s Commendation of Achievement certificate for 2016 to the top Corps and Squadrons in the province, present pins to the Cadets and recognize Saskatchewan’s top Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadet Corps, and Air Cadet Squadron at awards ceremonies.
“The Cadet program offers great value to Saskatchewan’s participating youth,” Provincial Military Liaison Greg Lawrence said. “It allows our young people to participate in environmental, citizenship and community focused activities while learning valuable life and work skills.”

The following events are taking place to recognize the top Cadet units:

• October 4, 2016 at 6:45 p.m.: #45 Jervis Bay – Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, 405 24th Street East, Saskatoon
• October 5, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.: #41 Hercules – Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, 1600 Elphinstone Street, Regina
• November 1, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.: #155 Royal Regina Rifles – Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, 1600 Elphinstone Street, Regina

These recognition events mark the seventh year the award ceremonies have taken place. The top units of the program are selected by Area Cadet Officers through the use of a scoring matrix. The Cadet program is a national program for youth aged 12 to 18. The program offers a variety of activities for youth focusing on leadership, citizenship and fitness while learning about the sea, army and air elements of the Canadian Armed Forces. There are 1,719 youth enrolled in Saskatchewan’s sea, army and air Corps and Squadrons.
