City of Moose Jaw Receives $330,000 for Targeted Policing Initiatives

Released on November 17, 2016

The Government of Saskatchewan is taking action to help ensure community safety for Moose Jaw communities and families through the Municipal Police Grants.  This contribution of $330,000 will continue to fund three Moose Jaw Police Service positions.

“A major priority for the Government of Saskatchewan is community safety,” Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Greg Lawrence said on behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant.  “This grant funds three officers that are dedicated to protecting Moose Jaw communities and families.”

Municipal Police Grant funding supports three officer positions in the city of Moose Jaw.  These positions are dedicated to Serious Crime and Enhanced Community Policing.

“We appreciate the province’s ongoing funding of the Municipal Police Grant,” Moose Jaw Mayor Fraser Tolmie said.  “This partnership helps ensure Moose Jaw families and communities are safe.”

“This grant allows us to employ three Moose Jaw Police Service members,” Moose Jaw Police Chief Rick Bourassa said.  “This ultimately enhances community safety and the well-being of the people of Moose Jaw and area.”

This funding is part of $14.2 million provided to municipalities for 125 targeted police officer positions across the province.

More than $109 million has been invested in community safety province-wide through Municipal Police Grants since 2008-09.  The City of Moose Jaw has received more than $2.5 million since 2008-09.
