City of Weyburn Receives $220,000 for Targeted Policing Initiatives

Released on November 10, 2016

The Government of Saskatchewan is taking action to help ensure community safety for Weyburn communities and families through the Municipal Police Grants.  This contribution of $220,000 will continue to fund two Weyburn Police Service positions.

“The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to community safety in our cities, towns and rural municipalities,” Energy and Resources Minister and Weyburn MLA Dustin Duncan said on behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant.  “Families and communities in Weyburn and area are safer because of the officers these grants support.”

Municipal Police Grant funding supports two officer positions in the city of Weyburn.  These officers work on serious crime initiatives and as part of Community Traffic Services Saskatchewan.

“This funding helps support the work of the Weyburn Police Service with two sworn members who help ensure the safety of Weyburn and area,” Weyburn Chief of Police Marlo Pritchard said.  “We appreciate the partnership we have with the province to help ensure the safety of Weyburn communities and families.”

This funding is part of $14.2 million provided to municipalities for 125 targeted police officer positions across the province.

More than $109 million has been invested in community safety province-wide through Municipal Police Grants since 2008-09.  The City of Weyburn has received more than $1.8 million since 2008-09.
