A Saskatoon construction company was fined $2,800 after it pleaded guilty to two charges under Occupational Health and Safety regulations in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
H2 Construction pleaded guilty on November 1 to:
- subsection 91(1): failure to ensure that workers wear approved industrial protective headwear; and
- subsection 116(2): failure to ensure that workers use a fall protection system at a work area where a worker may fall three metres or more.
The company was fined $1,000 plus a $400 surcharge for each violation for a total of $2,800 in fines. One other charge was stayed.
Charges were recommended after an Occupational Health and Safety Officer observed workers on the roof of a two-storey home without proper protective equipment. No workers were involved in an incident or injured.
A fall from height has the potential to cause permanent disability or death, so workers must wear fall protection equipment if they may fall three metres or more.
