The Government of Saskatchewan is taking action to help ensure community safety for Yorkton communities and families through the Municipal Police Grants. This contribution of $330,000 will continue to fund three Yorkton RCMP positions.“Community safety is a priority for the Government of Saskatchewan,” Rural and Remote Health Minister and Yorkton MLA Greg Ottenbreit said on behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant. “This grant ensures resources are dedicated to protecting Yorkton communities and families.”
Municipal Police Grant funding supports three officer positions in the city of Yorkton. These officers work on targeted programs as members of the city’s RCMP police service.
“The province’s ongoing funding of the Municipal Police Grant is greatly appreciated,” Yorkton Mayor Bob Maloney said. “This funding provides us with additional resources that enhance our ability to ensure the safety of Yorkton families and communities.”
This funding is part of $14.2 million provided to municipalities for 125 targeted police officer positions across the province. More than $109 million has been invested in community safety province-wide through Municipal Police Grants since 2008-09. The City of Yorkton has received more than $2.4 million since 2008-09.
