The Government of Saskatchewan is taking action to help ensure community safety for Prince Albert communities and families through the Municipal Police Grants. This contribution of $2 million will continue to fund 19 Prince Albert Police Service.“The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to ensuring community safety across the province,” Crown Investments Corporation Minister and Prince Albert Carlton MLA Joe Hargrave said on behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant. “Through the Municipal Police Grants the province is able to help ensure families and neighbourhoods in Prince Albert are safe by providing additional resources to the Prince Albert Police Service.”
The programs supported through the Municipal Police Grants disrupt organized crime and gang activity through the investigations of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, hold chronic habitual offenders to account through the Serious and Habitual Offender Comprehensive Action Program, work to solve missing persons cases and reduce the victimization of the most vulnerable members of our society through the Internet Child Exploitation unit.
“Our community benefits from a strong relationship with the provincial government,” Prince Albert Police Service Chief Troy Cooper said. “The Municipal Police Grant funding we receive provides resources we would not otherwise have access to. These funds are used to increase the number of police officers available to work on priority issues like the exploitation of children and organized crime.”
This funding is part of $14.2 million provided to municipalities for 125 targeted police officer positions across the province. More than $109 million has been invested in community safety province-wide through Municipal Police Grants since 2008-09. The City of Prince Albert has received more than $15 million since 2008-09.
