The Government of Saskatchewan is taking action to help ensure community safety for Meadow Lake communities and families through the Municipal Police Grants. This contribution of $770,000 will continue to fund seven Meadow Lake RCMP positions.“Community Safety and well-being across the province but particularly in the North is a priority for the Government of Saskatchewan,” Economy Minister and Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison said on behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant. “The additional RCMP resources provided through the Municipal Police Grants are incredibly important to families and residents of Meadow Lake and area.”
The Municipal Police Grant supports enhanced community policing throughout the city in the areas of chronic offenders, youth education programs, illegal drug activity, and traffic safety. These programs support the core work of the Meadow Lake RCMP and work to ensure a safer community.
“We appreciate the province’s continued commitment for our community’s safety,” Meadow Lake Mayor Gary Vidal said. “The Municipal Police Grant provides Meadow Lake with supports to focus on concerns and risks to our community.”
This funding is part of $14.2 million provided to municipalities for 125 targeted police officer positions across the province. More than $109 million has been invested in community safety province-wide through Municipal Police Grants since 2008-09. The City of Meadow Lake has received more than $3.8 million since 2011-12.
