Architecture Week Celebrated

Released on May 27, 2016

May 30 to June 4 has been set aside to appreciate the contributions of architects and architecture to Saskatchewan, with the official declaration of Architecture Week in the province.

Organized by the Saskatchewan Association of Architects, the week is aimed at encouraging everyone to explore architecture, art and design in Saskatchewan.

“Architectural works contribute significantly to the beauty of Saskatchewan, and are a big part of both our heritage and building for the future,” Central Services Minister Jennifer Campeau said.  “I’m pleased to be able to recognize the contributions of individuals involved in the profession who contribute so much to our province’s diversity, from our majestic buildings to the beautiful parks located in every corner of Saskatchewan.”

A number of events will be held in conjunction with Architecture Week, including the annual Lieutenant Governor’s Architectural Heritage Awards on May 31 at historic Government House and the Prairie Design Awards and Gala Reception on June 3 at the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina.

“It’s our time of year to celebrate the profession and its contribution to making Saskatchewan a place where we all want to live,” Saskatchewan Association of Architects President David Edwards said.  “While the association’s main mandate is one of governance and to regulate the profession for the protection of public safety, this year we are partnering with the Society for the Study of Architecture in Canada to explore the cultural, social and historical side of architecture in Saskatchewan and Canada.”

Events scheduled in conjunction with Architecture Week will stimulate discussion and engage residents of all ages in discovering the architectural wonders of Saskatchewan.

Visit the Saskatchewan Association of Architects website at www.saskarchitects.com for more information on public and delegate events during Architecture Week.
