Social Services Implements Plan for Canada Post Service Disruption

Released on June 29, 2016

With the possibility of a Canada Post service disruption beginning as early as July 2, 2016, the Ministry of Social Services has implemented contingency plans to ensure critical cheque payments are available to clients and service providers.  Most monthly cheques were mailed on June 23, 2016, or earlier, and should arrive prior to any postal disruption.

These include monthly cheques for the following ministry programs:
  • Saskatchewan Assistance Program;
  • Transitional Employment Allowance;
  • Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability;
  • Child and Family Programs; and
  • Community Living (Family Respite, Approved Private-Service Homes, Cognitive Disability Strategy).
Most of the ministry’s payments are made through direct deposit.  Clients, caregivers, service providers and vendors who do not receive payments through direct deposit will be able to pick up cheques at ministry service centres throughout the province until the risk of a service disruption at Canada Post has ended.

Clients and service providers are asked to check www.saskatchewan.ca/postal-strike after June 30, 2016, for more information, including cheque pickup locations and dates.  Clients are encouraged to wait until June 30, 2016, before contacting their worker about delayed payments.

Ministry clients and service providers who still receive printed cheques are asked to consider switching to direct deposit to avoid these types of disruptions in the future.
