A new two-year $750,000 pilot program delivered by Foxvalley Counselling Services Inc. will support up to 10 Regina families with complex needs while reducing their dependency on government programs and services. The program will support families who have been top users of publically-funded programs and services. Foxvalley Counselling staff will work with the families to reduce criminal offences and family violence, support families to care for their children, increase employment, support families challenged by mental health and addictions, and ensure children are attending school.
“This is an incredibly important initiative for Saskatchewan families that are most in need of government services,” Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell said. “Saskatchewan is receiving well-deserved national and international recognition for our multi-ministry approach to working with families in need and making sure citizens are put first.”
The Healthy Families Initiative is an evidence-based program modeled on a successful initiative out of the United Kingdom. Foxvalley Counselling is a Regina community-based organization that provides intensive supports to families including teaching, monitoring, connection to counseling, conflict resolution and care services.
“Foxvalley is focused on helping families within our community,” Foxvalley Counselling Services Inc. Executive Director Mark Fox said. “The Healthy Families Initiative is exciting because it is using a multi-ministry approach to supporting families in all areas of their life, and is structured on evidence-based practices.”
Based on the results of the model program, it is estimated that the Healthy Families Initiative will generate a two to one return on investment, saving government $1.5 million.
