Alberta Company Pleads Guilty to Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Violations

On July 20, 2016, Crop Production Services (Canada) Inc. of Calgary, Alberta pleaded guilty to a charge of failure to provide an effective safeguard where a worker may contact a dangerous moving part of a machine.

The company was fined $100,000 with an additional $40,000 surcharge in Saskatoon Provincial Court.  One other charge was stayed.

Charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 30, 2014, where a worker suffered an amputation of his left hand when it became entangled in a conveyor system.  The incident happened near Elstow, Saskatchewan.

Everyone is responsible for safety in the workplace.  Employers have the greatest responsibility.
